Richie Hatch was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. He joined the United States Marine Corps as an infantry rifleman in 2004. He completed two tours in Iraq and reenlisted into the intelligence community, where he completed three additional tours, one to Iraq and two to Afghanistan.
His personal awards include four Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, one with Combat Distinguishing Device, and two Combat Action Ribbons. Upon leaving the Marine Corps, Richie found his passion training Krav Maga in California. He returned to El Paso and became a Krav Maga instructor, as well as a National Rifle Association Firearms Instructor, with Total Defense El Paso.
Shelly starting training Krav Maga the day that Total Defense opened in 2014 as MMA Academy. Her first class was a women’s Sexual Assault Prevention Seminar and she was hooked. She became a Krav Maga Level 1 instructor in May 2016 and Level 2 instructor May 2018. Shelly loves teaching Krav Maga because she has seen such an improvement in her physical fitness as well as her confidence.
Marcel teaches Krav Maga Level 3, kids self-defense, and strength and fitness.
He became a student of Krav Maga in 2011 and a year later he became a Level 1 Krav Maga instructor in San Antonio. In 2014, he returned to his hometown of El Paso and began teaching self defense at Total Defense El Paso.
In 2016, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Texas at El Paso. With an extensive knowledge in exercise science, his classes are sure to be physically and mentally challenging.
Marcel is committed to help students of all self defense or fitness levels develop mental and physical strength at Total Defense.
Instructor Guilherme, also known as Gui, was born and raised in Brazil where he started his journey with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or BJJ. He started training at 14 years old, working his way through various levels and belts. In 2013 he began teaching others his passion for BJJ as self-defense, sport and a way of life. Gui is a certified Carlson Gracie Black Belt. He came to the United States in 2016 in order to continue sharing his love of BJJ. In 2017 he found his way to Total Defense El Paso where he is now teaching no-gi and gi BJJ multiple times a week. His goal is simply to share his passion for BJJ with anyone who will train. He continues to train and compete whenever possible as a representative of Total Defense El Paso and Carlson Gracie.
